The test takers collect Spider-Eagle eggs and Todo learns to respect Gourmet Hunters, vowing to return and take the exam again. Netero, the head examiner and Hunter Association's president, arrives and has Menchi give everyone another chance. While one of the examinees, Todo the wrestler, criticizes Menchi and all Gourmet Hunters. She fails all applicants.Īkaten × Panikku × Ten no koe ( 赤点×パニック×天の声) Everyone satisfies Buhara's taste for BBQ pork, but they all fail to make sushi good enough for Menchi. The group starts the second phase of the test, which is to satisfy Gourmet Hunters Buhara and Menchi with their cooking. Although Hisoka is able to kill all of his intended victims, he recognizes that Gon and Leorio are special and lets them live. Later, Hisoka plays at being an examiner and murders a number of examinees. The first phase continues the marathon through a treacherous wetland nicknamed the " Swindler's Swamp". Hisoka determines the real examiner by flinging deadly playing cards at each man, reasoning the true Hunter will live it's Satotz.
At the end of the first stage, a man appears to accuse the examiner of being a fake. In a dream state, he explains that he wants to be a Hunter to get money so he can become a doctor who doesn't charge for his services. Tonpa has placed Leorio and another examinee named Nicholas near hallucinogenic sap. In the end Tonpa betrays Leorio, as Gon and Kurapika go looking for them. They are befriended by Tonpa, a man taking the exam for the 35 th time, and meet Killua, another entrant. Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio reach the first phase of the Hunter Exam, a seemingly endless forced run through a tunnel leading by the examiner named Satotz. In the end it turns out the couple and the beasts are a family and they find the group worthy of continuing to the next test. Leorio stays to treat the husband's wounds as Gon and Kurapika help the wife. When they enter, the trio finds the navigator couple being attacked by a magical beast, whom kidnaps the wife. Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio continue on the test, arriving at a cabin in the woods. They successfully answer a riddle asked by an examiner and move on to the next test. Matthew, an examinee they meet, travels with them and then betrays them.
The bus is a trap, so Leorio abandons it and catches up with Gon and Kurapika. Leorio takes the bus and the rest head towards the tree. The ship's Captain recommends they go towards a tree on the top of a mountain instead of directly at their goal in order to find a navigator. Sentaku × Chikamichi × Mawari michi ( 選択×近道×まわり道) Gon wants to find his father, Leorio wants to be rich, and Kurapika wants to be a force for justice. The Captain asks each for their reason to be a Hunter. On the ship to the exam, Gon and Leorio meet Kurapika. In town, Gon befriends Leorio, who is also intent on taking the exam, and they take down a cruel animal show. Gon goes to town to catch a ship to the exam. Despite her own feelings, after Gon catches the beast, Mito allows him to take the Hunter Exam.

Entranced, Gon sets out upon catching the Master of the Swamp in order to convince his aunt Mito to let him take the Hunter Exam and become a professional Hunter Association. Gon prevents Kite from killing a Foxbear cub, and the man tells him that his father Ging is alive. A mysterious stranger named Kite saves Gon by killing the beast. Gon Freecss has a run-in with a Foxbear in the forest. Tabi iku shōnen × Kaze no oto wo nokoshite ( 旅行く少年×風の音を残して) At the end they become best friends and the Captain shows high hopes for them.Ī Boy Setting Out for a Journey × Leaving Behind the Sound of the Wind Even though Leorio and Kurapika don't get along they are eventually forced by circumstance and inspired by Gon to work together to save the ship, which they do.
Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika help the crew fight them off. While on the ship it is besieged by a storm and a multiple of strange creatures. On the ship he meets Leorio and Kurapika. He then says his final goodbye's to Mito, before leaving on a big ship. We then see a flashback of Kite killing the Foxbear's mother and lecturing Gon who ends up adopting the Foxbear. He goes back into the forest to meet his Foxbear friend. Which he does and brings back to the village and his surrogate mother Mito Freecss, who allows him to take the Hunter Exam and become a professional Hunter. Gon Freecss is found fishing trying to catch Master of the Swamp.
